Spirulina Dark Chocolate Smoothie Superfood To Go!

Spirulina Dark Chocolate Smoothie Superfood To Go!

Smoothies are my main squeeze in the warmer months and I will admit I get stuck on the same ingredients often. This shake came out of laziness to fill veggie caps. Yes, I mix powerhouse plant powders and shove them into little gel caps for amazing supplements. It seems these days I have way to many jobs to do including making soap, sugar cubes, getting my real estate license, rehabbing the house and dog sitting. So now that you know I’m OCD lets get on with the smoothie!!

For most recipes I really have no measurements I just toss and taste. For smoothies, I challenge everyone to do the same, why? I want you to use smoothie recipes as guidelines, be creative. Make it EASY, so you will do it often. I promise the more you make, the more you will learn what you like and don’t like in your smoothie shakes.
I know for most of my smoothies I always start with frozen bananas. They add that rich creamy texture I love and crave. Not to mention all the benefits bananas have like… rich in vitamin A, carotenoids, potassium, magnesium, calcium and fiber.
Studies have been done showing bananas have the potential to protect you against chronic diseases like diabetes, cardiovascular disease and a reduction in the risk of stroke, in men. Wow it is a perfect fruit! Back in the day and still today in other countries bananas were and are used for morning sickness. My personal favorite is cucumbers for being over heated and feelings of nauseous.

List of benefits from ingredients used.
Chlorella powder is an emerald green freshwater algae that gives smoothies a health. It is a true superfood and plentiful source of healthy chlorophyll to cleanse and detoxify the body. Spirulina is a blue-green algae superfood that has superpowers when it comes to your health. Its a complete protein with all 9 essential amino acids, and plenty of antioxidants, iron, calcium and more. Maca powder comes from an adaptogenic root that is recognized for its ability to increase energy, reduce stress, and even boost the libido. Maca powder provides a good source of fiber, calcium, iron, magnesium and amino acids. Goldenseal provides protection for the liver, helps the GI tract, promotes skin elements and helps relieve sinus conditions.

The powders listed above ARE ORGANIC. I buy them from online mostly, www.Nuts.com is one of my favorite companies when it comes to most of my organic powders and the information pulled above came directly from their site. I am not being paid by anyone I endorse on this page, I endorse because I truly like them or use them. I get my ground goldenseal from an herbalist but I did find this farm and I was going to buy some other products and different goldenseals from him. Goldenseal is one of those products that is now protected due to over harvesting. Please know your source for this amazing product.

So here we go…
Choco-Lina

Just a teaspoon each of spirulina, Chlorella, green tea powder and goldenseal.
Then one tablespoon of maca powder
2 frozen bananas
1/4-1/3 cup of organic dark cocoa powder
1/3 cup of hemp seeds
Protein powder I use
I do throw in a few large ice cubes
Top with milk at least 36 ounces for 2-3 smoothies

Blend, pour, drink!

Sometimes I will add spinach, blueberries or a huge scoop of coconut cream if I have it. Then again, that is just me using up leftovers. This smoothie has that very green taste even though you are only using small amounts spirulina and chlorella. Over time I got used to the taste and now enjoy it a lot more. It truly is an acquired taste but the health benefits make me fall in love. I personally do not take goldenseal daily, so I usually don’t drink this shake more then two times a week.

I am not a doctor, I’m just sharing information.
