There’s Fluoride Then There Is Fluoride
I’m not here to tell you if fluoride is right for you or your family. I’m just sharing what I’ve learned on my journey to healthy teeth and gums.
One thing I know for sure: fluoride does not stop cavities! If it did, dentists would only work 2 days a week! No one in the big cities in the USA would have any cavities. Here is my main issue with fluoride: it is everywhere and in everything, including your water supply, food supply and, of course, in oral care products. According to the FDA and ADA, fluoride used topically, such as in toothpaste and mouth rinse; can help strengthen your teeth and reduce cavities, so can eating lots of greens! It is a fact that fluoride replaces calcium in teeth and bones. So in areas that double up on fluoride in their water supply, people can and do have weaker bones and serious damage to their teeth. Too much fluoride in children can turn their teeth BLACK. You don’t have to believe me, just look at images on the Internet of “fluorosis” or teeth that are blotched white to dark, depending on the pigment of your teeth. Yes, teeth have pigment, 40% of all Americans have some type of fluorosis. How unnecessary! It’s great that you buy organic veggies, but how did they grow and what were they watering those veggies with? Pre-made food from stores, food you make at home, BABY FOOD, baby formula, soups, stews, smoothies, ice cubes, and your veggie gardens could all be made and/or watered with water containing fluoride!! In a city and suburbs you really have no idea if it’s too much or how much fluoride you are getting, not to mention all the chlorine and pesticides (non organic) you are also consuming. You can at least call your water supply company and ask for the levels. I hope they tell you 0.7 or less parts per million.
There are doctors out there who study this, and Dr. Blaylock is one of them who says that artificial fluoride (what is being used) mixed with even small amounts of aluminum caused severe destruction of brain cells in the part of the brain that controls learning and memory. Fluoride studies have indicated brain and nervous system damage and cancer. In other studies, it has been proven to trigger Alzheimer’s and other brain disease in people with dementia. Yet the FDA still approves fluoride in the water supply. Don’t forget, some people still eat off tin plates, cook in aluminum pans or still use their grandmas old rice cookers. It all ads up to toxicity in our bodies.
Moving on to oral care toothpaste and mouthwash!
Commercial toothpaste is loaded with crap, and I promise you, I was super faithful to one of the big toothpastes that starts with “C”. Even the companies who claim to be “all natural” put SLS (sodium laurel sulfate) in their paste. Aka SDS and SLES… WHY? Because consumers have been brain washed into thinking bubble action equals clean. Like fluoride, SLS is everywhere! Just look at the ingredients label on your toothpaste, shampoo, body wash, dish soap, laundry soap, hospital hand wipes, baby wipes, even many of those colorful bath bombs. I promise the list is super long and SLS will be on the ingredient list. I won’t even start on household and garage “cleaning products.” I will blog again just about SLS and how it is jacking up our oceans as well.

- Sodium Fluoride
- Hydrated Silica
- PVM/MA Copolymer
- Sodium Lauryl Sulfate
- Cellulose Gum
- Sodium Hydroxide
- Propylene Glycol
- Sodium Saccharin
- Titanium Dioxide
- FD&C Blue No.1
- D&C Yellow No.10
You can look up more about all the ingredients posted above and on your own current home products you are using. I just wanted to touch on 7 of 17 ingredients listed above that really bother me, personally. It seems that most people except them as “good” because some FDA or ADA label told them so.
Let me start with the most controversial of all the ingredients, fluoride. The ADA supports the use of fluoride in toothpaste, but many advocate groups heartily argue against it, citing numerous health risks associated with ingesting the substance, so here we go.
Fluoride: The ADA swears by this very controversial ingredient for sure. The ADA was challenged in research done back in 2010. The study found that the “supposedly beneficial layer” that forms on your teeth from fluoride, is only six nanometers thick, that is NOT even as thick as one sheet of tissue paper. This was my main point in the beginning of this blog. So, bite down on anything…including a healthy apple and poof, it’s gone.
SLS: As noted above, has also been linked to canker soars and interfering with your taste buds!!!
Glycerin: Most people don’t think twice about this, but in oral products, including edible (sex lube), it is not a good thing. It is like using putty over those spongy holes in your teeth keeping saliva from doing it’s job. I am not against glycerin in soap and hand creams as long as it is non GMO. I love it in bath and body, hate it in oral care.
Triclosan: Taken right from the Mayo Clinic!
In 2016, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a rule stating that over-the-counter consumer antiseptic wash products containing many potentially harmful antibacterial active ingredients — including triclosan and triclocarban — can no longer be marketed to consumers. These products include liquid, foam and gel hand soaps, bar soaps, and body washes.
Triclosan is also added to certain clothes, cookware, furniture and toys to reduce or prevent bacterial contamination, but these products aren’t regulated by the FDA.
The ruling follows recent studies that have raised questions about whether triclosan is hazardous to human health. Research has shown that triclosan:
- Alters hormone regulation in animals
- Might contribute to the development of antibiotic-resistant germs
- Might be harmful to the immune system
“So what you’re saying is…BAD FOR SOAP, but ok for my mouth????? COME ON PEOPLE!!!!!!!” How does this even make sense??
Carrageenan: An overly processed red seaweed, which has no nutritional value. Carrageenan is EVERYWHERE! It is used as a thickener and emulsifier to improve the texture of ice cream, yogurt, cottage cheese, heavy whipping cream, soy milk, nut milks, and other processed foods. INCLUDING TOOTHPASTE! It has been linked to leaky gut, IBS, inflammation and many other issues people now take drugs for. It is proven that Inflammation is a root cause of many serious diseases including heart disease, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases, and of course cancer. Do I really need to go on here? I have many post and many more to come about evil carrageenan.
Sorbitol: A sugar alcohol, which the human body metabolizes slowly. It can be obtained by reduction of glucose, changing the aldehyde group to a hydroxyl group. Most sorbitol is made from corn syrup. Just what we need, more sugar in our bodies and GMOs! The Mayo clinic has reported: This substance can cause adverse gastrointestinal effects.
Hydrated Silica: A whitener that damages tooth enamel. Hydrated silica, which is primarily used as an abrasive in toothpaste, is made from a crystallized compound found in quartz, sand, and flint.
Again, Tooth enamel re-mineralizes daily from the supply of ionic calcium and phosphorus in the saliva. Man needs to stop messing with mother nature. Spit is good in your own mouth.
So after studying all my oral and beauty products. This is how I got into making REAL NATURAL TOOTHPASTE and I swear my teeth feel truly clean. My gums don’t bleed at all and my teeth are firmly planted in my gums where they belong.

Coconut Toothpaste (Ms Foodie)
This formula swaps out the glycerin and uses coconut oil instead. The coconut flavor and essential oil should mask the subtle taste of the hydrogen peroxide and baking soda,
1 tbsp baking soda
1/2 teaspoon real salt or Celtic salt
2 tbsp coconut oil
mash it all up with
3-4 drops peppermint, spearmint, clove, tea tree essential oil
Use with a dry toothbrush, I promise you won’t want to swallow this salty concoction. If you do at least it won’t cause cancer oxox
This is what I was using until I started marketing and selling my Smile Paste.
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 drop peppermint, clove, or citrus pure essential oil
Get toothbrush wet and lightly dip.
If you must…
you can add a few drops of Organic stevia to make it sweet, but you are brushing, NOT EATING! Not to get side tracked on yet another topic but many stevia’s on the market are also crap! Now Ya Know.
